Welcoming “Salacia” to The Seafood Shack Launch of New Bar Set for Late May 2016

The winds of change continue to blow at The Seafood Shack Marina, Bar & Grill! Our team has been busy with the fitting of a new bar that is set to open at the end of May 2016.

Built to resemble the hull of a boat, plans are underway for the bar’s “Launch Party” on Thursday May 26, which will include a traditional Christening with champagne for good luck and safe travel.

For fun, the boat will be named Salacia. In ancient Roman mythology, Salacia was the female divinity of the sea, worshipped as the goddess of salt water who presided over the depths of the ocean. She was the wife and queen of Neptune, god of the sea.

The Salacia measures 31’ from stem to stern with a 14’ beam and will accommodate 36 seats for guests, more than twice the seats at The Shack’s existing bar. A large mast in the center will house 14 varieties of domestic, import and craft beers with 28 taps for accessibility from both sides of the bar. Guests will enjoy the full bar selections with wine, mixed drinks and specialty cocktails in addition to bottled and draft beers, while a Mini Mates Mocktail Menu will offer non-alcoholic kid-friendly concoctions. All drinks are served with unparalleled views of the sparkling waters of the Intracoastal Waterway and Anna Maria Sound.

“Construction of the bar began several months ago led by Paul Dolan of Midwest Carpentry in Sarasota,” stated Jed Lippincott, COO of The Seafood Shack. “Once complete, it was assembled on property in an unused area on the first floor of the restaurant and design work began on the bar top.” California-based muralist Jason Luper spent several weeks decorating the bar top with hand-drawn nautical detail resembling an antique map.

Final installation of the new amenity will require management to temporarily relocate Seafood Shack’s restaurant services for a full week to the 2nd floor Neptune Room. The fitting begins Sunday May 8, just following The Seafood Shack’s 2nd annual Mother’s Day Brunch Buffet. The existing bar structure will be moved outside to the marina to offer an outdoor tiki bar atmosphere and serving beer and wine waterside.

The Launch Party, complete with refreshments, live music and some special surprises, will begin at 5:30 pm on Thursday May 26, in the restaurant. For more information, call 941.794.1235. Stay tuned…
